The registration deadline is Oct. 1, 2005, and the registration from is available at education.luther.edu

E. The Teacher Education Program is required by the State of Iowa to include at least forty hours of practicum after Education 115 and before Educ 486 [student teaching]. Students will spend forty hours in the public school setting during Education 352.
F. Methods courses should be taken as close to the professional semester as possible. Methods in the major area of teaching are required and are highly recommended for the second teaching area, especially in science. Some states may require methods coursework in all teaching areas.
H. All Education majors and minors must take Making Decisions for U.S. Schools as their Paideia II course. This may be taken before or after the professional semester.
J. Wisconsin Teaching Licensure Requirements: Required minimum GPA of 2.75 [overall and in all teaching areas]; an extended student teaching experience (fall or spring + a Jterm); a three credit Content Area Reading course (Ed 378); and an Environmental Science course among other requirements.
K. Consult with Nick Preus, the Chair of the Education Department or Jennifer Lynne Olufsen, Teacher Certification Officer, on ways to research requirements for certification in various states. Luther College prepares you to meet the Iowa standards for teaching. Each state sets their own standards and they are constantly being reviewed and updated. The best source is on the web site. You may get the address to the different states web sites at the Education Office.
L. Testing Requirements ~ Praxis I and II testing is available five times a year at Luther College. Praxis I (PPST) is a requirement for MN and WI licensure. The Praxis II is required for MN. Registration booklets for the test are available in the Education Office. The registration form must be at ETS in New Jersey approximately one month before the test. If you do not take it at the Luther site, you may take it elsewhere but it is your responsibility to ensure that the score report arrives at the Education Office.
M. There are three special endorsements offered by Luther College, which apply to secondary education. These may be taken in addition to your other coursework; the Middle School Endorsement, the Learning Disabilities Endorsement or English as a Second Language Endorsement. Please check the Education Department web site regarding the requirements of the above mentioned endorsements.
N. The Education office relies heavily on email and SPO for contacting students. If you live off campus, you should make sure that the Education office has your address. If you use an email other than your Luther email, make sure that the Education office has that address.
* The Education Department recalculates the Luther College GPA to include all transfer courses. |
