The Luther College Education Department believes that a strong liberal arts background prepares the Luther student for specialization in the educational program.

The Education Program at Luther College is founded on the principles that a command of theoretical knowledge about learning and human behavior, a foundation of knowledge in the subject matter to be taught, and a repertoire of teaching competencies that facilitate learning and teaching are essential to the development of effective, reflective beginning teachers. Informing all of these elements is a moral stance that grows out of the College's roots and the discipline's long commitment to successive generations.

The Luther College Education Department views teaching as a developmental process that continues beyond the baccalaureate degree. Experience, maturity, and additional education will extend and enhance the Luther graduate's teaching skills, content knowledge, attitudes, multicultural perspectives, and interpersonal relationships.
